Commentary on "A Novel Temporary Stent For Treatment of Infrapopliteal Arteries in Conjunction With Drug-Coated Balloon Angioplasty: The DEEPER Pilot Study" by Mustapha, et al.

Original Contribution

The objectives of this trial were to evaluate the safety and performance of the temporary stent in treating infrapopliteal arterial disease.

Original Contribution

An evaluation of the technical aspects of the MicroStent (Micro Medical Solutions), a novel device specifically designed for the treatment of chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) below the knee (BTK) when used as primary treatment or as bailout in patients enrolled in the HEAL study, a postmarket, multicenter, European all-comers observational study.

Original Contribution

The primary objective of this study was to describe a novel classification system to characterize patterns of failure in deep venous arterialization (DVA) and suggest intervention strategies that correlate with these patterns.

Case/Review

The Pantheris device (Avinger), an integrated version of IV-OCT in a directional atherectomy device, has been used for the revascularization of lower extremity occlusions. We present a 73-year-old patient with chronic total occlusion of the axillary artery with successful revascularization using the Pantheris device, for the first time in the literature.

Case/Review

This case report describes a successful endovascular revascularization technique which, along with a multidisciplinary approach, resulted in limb salvage with only a minor amputation.

Articles from the September issue include promising limb salvage techniques, investigations of new devices, use of intravascular optical coherence tomography to help visualize the blood vessel wall microstructure, and a novel classification system to characterize patterns of failure in deep venous arterialization.
